Athens-based ADD Architecture Studio has been awarded the 2018-2019 GOLD A’ Design Award for Lighting Products and Lighting Projects Design Category for their design “Reverse Sunclock Multifunctional Wall Lamp” which aspires to reconsider what a Wall Lamp is, and what a Wall Lamp can be.
The inspiration to design this lamp emanates from the desire to match two inseparable concepts, that of time and light. The marriage of those into an object that resembles a clock yet exists as a wall lamp initially sprung from the observation of sun clocks.
Shadow and light unite and produce the notion of time. In this case the game between light and shadow applied onto a reverse sun clock, half fiberglass half brass, gives birth to a hybrid product, a ying yang existence of time and light.
The uniqueness lies into the harmonious coexistence of a clock and a lamp in a statement of an object. As the time passes a discus gradually lights off in parts which correspond to the segmentation of a clock. Half translucent fiberglass, half golden like brisesoleil the discus rotates corresponding to the different needs of direct and indirect light during the day while always indicating the time. A slimmer discus half mirror half brass behind the main one accentuates or diffuses the light.
The 6 segments of fiberglass of the upper half discus gradually light off from 9am till 3pm and then the discus rotates 180 degrees. The same process occurs from 4pm to 9pm and repeats itself every 6 hours. The rotation axis and motion rotors are found inside the slim base cutting the lamp in half. Light and shadow change according to time offering a spectacle to the observer. The rotation is set off through a hidden timer connected to two also hidden power adapters inside the lamp’s back base.
The discus consists of a brass wreath holding the fiberglass and the brass brisesoleil semicircles. Two pieces of fiberglass 3mm thick are held apart by the wreath so as for six strips of LED tape to be placed between them on the wreath’s 1cm internal surface. Another LED strip covered with plexiglass is placed behind the brass 3mm bars of the lower semicircle. The timer and adapters enclosed in the brass back base offer signal and power for the lighting on, off and rotation of the lamp.
The A’ Design Awards are the World’s most influential and largest design awards, with a grand jury panel which consists of internationally influential press members, established designers, leading academics and prominent entrepreneurs. They are presented each year in Italy giving recognition to the excellence of design on the international stage.

Most recently ADD received the Golden A’ Design Award 2018-2019 (“Reverse Sunclock” Multifunctional Wall Lamp), a prize shared with only 4 more laureates worldwide.

Το αθηναϊκό γραφείο ADDArchitectureStudio διακρίθηκε με το βραβείο 2018-2019 GOLD A’ Design Award στην κατηγορία Προϊόντων και project Φωτισμού για το project τους που αποκαλείται ‘Reverse Sunclock Multifunctional Wall Lamp’ , το οποίο φιλοδοξεί να αναθεωρήσει την έννοια και τις δυνατότητες ενός επίτοιχου φωτιστικού.
Η έμπνευση για το σχεδιασμό του φωτιστικού πηγάζει από την επιθυμία να συνδεθούν δύο αδιάσπαστες έννοιες, εκείνες του χρόνου και του φωτός. Το «πάντρεμα» αυτών σε ένα αντικείμενο που μοιάζει με ρολόι, ωστόσο υφίσταται ως επίτοιχο φωτιστικό, αρχικά ξεπήδησε από την παρατήρηση των ηλιακών ρολογιών.
Σκιά και φως ενώνονται και παράγουν την έννοια του χρόνου. Στη συγκεκριμένη περίπτωση το παιχνίδι μεταξύ φωτός και σκιάς εφαρμόζεται σε ένα ανεστραμμένο ηλιακό ρολόι-μισό φτιαγμένο από υαλοβάμβακα fiberglass και μισό από μπρούτζο-και γεννά ένα υβρίδιο χρόνου και φωτός.
Η μοναδικότητα έγκειται στην αρμονική συνύπαρξη ενός ρολογιού και ενός φωτιστικού στο ίδιο αντικείμενο. Καθώς ο χρόνος περνά, ένας δίσκος σταδιακά σβήνει κατά τμήματα που αντιστοιχούν στην κατάτμηση ενός ρολογιού. Αποτελούμενος μισός από ημιδιαφανή υαλοβάμβακα fiberglass και μισός από χρυσές περσίδες, ο δίσκος περιστρέφεται ανάλογα με τις διαφορετικές ανάγκες άμεσου και έμμεσου φωτισμού μέσα στη μέρα, ενώ πάντα υποδεικνύει το χρόνο. Ένας λεπτότερος δίσκος μισός από καθρέφτη και μισός από μπρούτζο βρίσκεται πίσω από τον βασικό δίσκο και τονίζει ή διαχέει το φως.
Τα 6 τμήματα του υαλοβάμβακα fiberglass του επάνω μέρους του δίσκου σταδιακά σβήνουν από τις 9π.μ. έως τις 3μ.μ. και έπειτα ο δίσκος περιστρέφεται 180 μοίρες. Η ίδια διαδικασία πραγματοποιείται από τις 4 μ.μ. έως τις 9 μ.μ. και επαναλαμβάνεται κάθε 6 ώρες. Ο άξονας περιστροφής και οι ρότορες κίνησης βρίσκονται μέσα στη λεπτή βάση που κόβει το φωτιστικό στα δύο. Το φως και η σκιά αλλάζουν ανάλογα με το χρόνο προσφέροντας θέαμα στον παρατηρητή. Η περιστροφή ενεργοποιείται μέσω ενός κρυμμένου χρονοδιακόπτη συνδεδεμένου με δύο επίσης κρυμμένους αντάπτορες τροφοδοσίας μέσα στη πίσω επίτοιχη βάση του φωτιστικού.
Ο δίσκος αποτελείται από μια μπρούτζινη στεφάνη που συγκρατεί τα ημικύκλια του υαλοβάμβακα fiberglass και των περσίδων. Δύο κομμάτια υαλοβάμβακα fiberglass πάχους 3mm συγκρατούνται σε μεταξύ τους απόσταση έτσι ώστε να τοποθετηθούν 6 κομμάτια ταινιών LED στην εσωτερική επιφάνεια της στεφάνης πλάτους 1cm. Μια ακόμα λωρίδα LED καλύπτεται με πλεξιγκλάς και τοποθετείται πίσω από τις μπρούτζινες ράβδους-περσίδες 3mm του κάτω ημικυκλίου. Ο χρονοδιακόπτης και οι αντάπτορες λειτουργίας και περιστροφής είναι τοποθετημένοι στην πίσω επίτοιχη μπρούτζινη βάση του φωτιστικού.

Οι ADD είναι ένα αρχιτεκτονικό design γραφείο με έδρα την Αθήνα που έχει σαν στόχο τη δημιουργία μοναδικών εμπειριών χώρου μέσα από το σχεδιασμό κτιρίων, εσωτερικών χώρων και αντικειμένων. Οι ιδρυτές Αργύρης Χρονόπουλος και Διονύσης Κουτσιουμάρης συναντήθηκαν κατά τη διάρκεια των σπουδών τους στο Εθνικό Μετσόβιο Πολυτεχνείο. Η συνεργασία τους ξεκίνησε στα φοιτητικά τους χρόνια και είχε σαν αποτέλεσμα να κερδίσουν το Ευρωπαϊκό Μετάλλιο Αρχιτεκτονικής αλλά και να είναι υποψήφιοι για το MiesVanDerRohe -YoungTalentArchitectureAward για τη διπλωματική τους με θέμα “Sub_Zero-LifeBeyondParking”, το 2016. Τα τελευταία χρόνια έχουν μάθει να περιμένουν πάντα το απρόσμενο και παράλληλα να το αξιοποιούν σαν πηγής έμπνευσης για την παραγωγή μοναδικού και αυθεντικού σχεδιαστικού έργου.
Από την ίδρυσή του το 2016, το ADDArchitectureStudio έχει κερδίσει το βραβείο SilverA’ DesignAward 2017 – 2018 για το σχεδιασμό του “ReversePickup” φωτιστικού και το BIG SEE Interior Design Awrad 2018 για το conceptstore “L’ Escalier”. Ο Αργύρης και ο Διονύσης έχουν υπάρξει επίσης το νεότερο αρχιτεκτονικό δίδυμο που έχει επιλεγεί για να εκθέσει έργο του στην 9η Μπιενάλε Νέων Ελλήνων Αρχιτεκτόνων με το σχεδιαστικό έργο τους “Meubleahabiter-Έπιπλο διαβίωσης” μια ιδιωτική κατοικία στην Εκάλη. Πρόσφατα οι ADD έλαβαν το πρώτο βραβείο στην κατηγορία Golden A’ Design Award με το φωτιστικό πολλαπλών χρήσεων “ReverseSunlock”, ένα βραβείο που μοιράζονται μόνο με 4 ακόμα ονόματα παγκοσμίως.
