Dries otten architects renovated a spacious apartment in Brussels. They tried through their design to bring more warmth and color to the apartment.

Before the renovation of this flat, the qualities of the apartment were already very clear: a beautiful and well-organized structure, charming authentic details and materials and from the balconies in front of the apartment some inspiring views on a green boulevard in Brussels.

The previous owners had opened the kitchen space towards the central hallway and installed the cooking stove in the narrow corridor towards the coffee-corner.

For the current client, architects created a vast kitchen isle (with a terrazzo worktop) and a lot of storage (in the ceiling high cupboards in teak-veneer) so he could have vibrant aperitivos on Friday night and long Sundays of cooking with friends.

They closed the kitchen space again towards the hallway to bring more intimacy in the room. They installed a semi-transparent room divider with some extra storage offering extra atmosphere and separating the kitchen from the circulation zone.

Towards the dining and sitting area, they enlarged the door opening to a more generous proportion.

In the back of the kitchen, in front of the window (and above a heating), architects designed a red niche with a built-in daybed, made in red linoleum. From the early morning, this sunlit spot allows you to have a holiday feeling while drinking your coffee and reading the weekend papers or just have a nap.

The client wanted the bathroom (and separate toilet) to have a Hamman feeling where he could spend lazy Saturdays. A double sink in front of big mirrors, red travertine, vertical terracotta-colored tiles, round shapes and a built-in planter, they drew him a spacious yet intimate and warm private wellness.

On the floor, a bespoke wall-to-wall terrazzo runs from the bathroom door to the walk-in shower. All taps are made of brushed brass.
