APARTMENT IN NEA IONIA / HIBOUX ARCHITECTURE

The project was a renovation of a typical  floor apartment in Nea Ionia. We demolished  the intermediate walls. This way the volume of the building’s staircase was left freestanding as a solid cube in the center of the appartement, visible from every part of the house. It’s sculptural effect is intesified by the use of red colour. The two side walls of the house were treated like elevations. At one side/elevation we placed a metal construction  at the height of a bench that mutates accordinglyto the identity of the space that it supports. 

In the living room it creates a workbench, a desk, storage places and a tv-base while in the kitchen and w.c.  creates room for their equipments. At the second side/elevation the metal construction is forming a library with some additional moving parts to meet the increased need for storage of books in the house.Instead of internal walls between individual areas there are free metallic structures either libraries or closets. They encapsulate some of the older home furnishings in a new function.
