Volumes in colour, in cylindrical or rectangular forms, tall or short, as pots for plants or as surfaces. LUDD team constructs the furniture of GRØN SPACE, a Landscape Architecture Studio & Plant Store in Athens, following Federica Scalise‘s design.
For the new office of the landscape architecture studio – plant store “GRON” of Yiannis Tsoutsas, we were entrusted with the construction of the furniture of the space, according to the plans of the architect Federica Scalise.
The challenge was to achieve a brutalist and minimal style creating volumes, without discontinuities, despite the fact that most of the constructions were complex and composed of several individual parts.
Ludd undertook the design for fabrication and fabrication of the furniture, giving special consideration on how to minimize and optimize the joining points.
Additionally, we ensured the accuracy of the processing of the metal parts using digital fabrication methods and finally we filled the joints with putty before the powder coat painting.
The first construction is a central meeting table in a dark green hue. The table rests on the one side on a semi-cylindrical pot carrying a large plant, a fig tree in this case, and on the other side on a rectangular volume with deep vertical folds. The entire structure is made out of steel components, including laser-cut corrugated sheets for the end surfaces, internal ribs constructed from hollow beams and thick blades passed through a CNC cylinder to shape the planter’s framework.
The second composition is a tall dark green bar-type bench. The inner frame is made of iron beams and the front is formed by custom corrugated sheet metal, which ends at the side in a steel shelving unit. At the back there is access to the internal storage areas. The benchtop surface is made of pine plywood, capable of accepting in the future a marble countertop.
The third design involves two white steel seating benches crafted from partially slotted steel sheets, manufactured using a Laser Cutter and welded into place.
Finally, a composition of staggered cabinets was manufactured from novopan covered by melamine, featuring push-open mechanisms on the cabinet doors.

Έγχρωμοι όγκοι, σε κυλινδρικές ή ορθογώνιες μορφές, ψηλοί ή χαμηλοί, ως γλάστρες για φυτά ή ως λειτουργικές επιφάνειες. Η ομάδα LUDD κατασκευάζει τα έπιπλα του GRØN SPACE, ενός γραφείου αρχιτεκτονικής τοπίου – φυτωρίου στην Αθήνα, σε σχέδια της Federica Scalise.
Στο πλαίσιο της διαμόρφωσης του γραφείου αρχιτεκτονικής τοπίου – φυτωρίου GRON του Γιάννη Τσούτσα, μας ανατέθηκε η κατασκευή των επίπλων του χώρου, σε σχέδια της αρχιτεκτόνισσας Federica Scalise.
Η πρόκληση του έργου ήταν να επιτευχθεί ένα brutal και minimal ύφος στους όγκους των συνθέσεων, χωρίς ασυνέχειες, παρά το γεγονός ότι οι περισσότερες κατασκευές ήταν σύνθετες και αποτελούνταν από αρκετά επιμέρους μέρη.
Η Ludd ανέλαβε τον σχεδιασμό εφαρμογής και την κατασκευή των επίπλων δίνοντας έμφαση στην ελαχιστοποίηση και βελτιστοποίηση των σημείων συναρμογής, στην διασφάλιση της ακρίβειας των επιμέρους κατεργασιών των μετάλλων μέσω της χρήσης ψηφιακών μεθόδων κατασκευής και στην πλήρη απόκρυψη των αρμών πριν την βαφή των τελικών αντικειμένων.
Η πρώτη κατασκευή αφορά τον σκούρο πράσινο κεντρικό πάγκο – γραφείο συνάντησης. Ο πάγκος στηρίζεται από τη μία σε ημικυλινδρική ζαρντινιέρα ικανή να φέρει μεγάλο φυτό, φίκο εν προκειμένω, και στην άλλη μεριά σε έναν ορθογώνιο όγκο με βαθιές κάθετες πτυχώσεις. Ολόκληρη η κατασκευή είναι μεταλλική και συντίθεται από στρατσαρισμένες λαμαρίνες κομμένες σε Laser Cutter για τις τελικές επιφάνειες, νεύρα από κοιλοδοκούς για τον εσωτερικό σκελετό και χοντρές λάμες περασμένες από CNC κύλινδρο για την ζαρντινιέρα.
Η δεύτερη κατασκευή είναι ένας υψηλός σκούρος πράσινος πάγκος τύπου bar. Ο εσωτερικός σκελετός αποτελείται από κοιλοδοκούς, η μπροστινή όψη διαμορφώνεται από custom κυματοειδή λαμαρίνα, που καταλήγει στο πλάι σε ραφιέρα επίσης από λαμαρίνα. Από την πίσω μεριά υπάρχει πρόσβαση σε χώρους αποθήκευσης. Η άνω επιφάνεια είναι φτιαγμένη από κόντρα πλακέ πεύκο, ικανή να δεχτεί επικάλυψη από πλάκα μαρμάρου στο μέλλον.
Η τρίτη σύνθεση αφορά δύο λευκούς χαλύβδινους καθιστικούς πάγκους αποτελούμενους από μισοχαρακτά κομμάτια λαμαρίνας, κομμένα σε Laser Cutter και σιδηροκολλημένα μεταξύ τους.
Τέλος κατασκευάστηκε και μια σύνθεση ντουλαπιών κλιμακωτής ανάπτυξης καθ’ ύψος από νοβοπάν με επένδυση λευκής μελαμίνης και push open μηχανισμούς.
