The Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany (Designpreis der Bundesrepublik Deutschland) is the most prestigious official German design award. The award is endowed by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy. At the ceremonial award show which took place last night, on September 25, 2014 at the assembly hall at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy, the ten awardees of 2014 were announced. Furthermore, the Award for Lifetime Achievements was endowed. The Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Minister of Economics and Energy, Iris Gleicke, was the official host of the ceremonial award show.
The most outstanding products and projects in the following three categories were awarded the design award: Product Design (serial products from all kinds of trade), Communication Design (analogue and digital media as well as 3D- and live-communication) and Young Talents.

The nomination and awarding of the submitted products and projects was decided upon by an independent jury, under the chairmanship of Mr. Undersecretary Frank Fischer, Head of the Department for Cultural and Creative Industries of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy. The jury, consisting of experts from the creative industries, research and sciences, as well as politics and the media, was appointed by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy. The jury members: Mr. Undersecretary Frank Fischer, Prof. Dr. Dirk-Mario Boltz, Prof. Dr. Uta Brandes, Prof. Fons Hickmann, Erik van Buuren, Stefan Eckstein, Gesa Hansen, Angelika Müller, Stephan Niehaus, Stefan Pufe and Andreas Tölke.
