DOTing MIRROR BY DESIGNER CONSTANTINOS ECONOMIDES

 

Constantinos Economides runs his own design studio since 2011 in Nicosia, Cyprus, creating furniture, accessories, lighting designs and interior spaces. Constantinos graduated with an MA Industrial Design, at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. He gained experience in design and architectural practices, such as Michael Sodeau Studio in London. His work has been featured in exhibitions in Athens, Palermo, London, Milan, Valencia, China and Cyprus.

 

In 2008 until 2011, Constantinos also had worked with the Campana Brothers for the redesign and renovation of the Olympic Hotel near Syntagma Square in the heart of Athens. Nowdays, while running his own studio, he is part of DRAW Collective which design products for their in-house label and also work with industry locally providing designs for manufacture. He has also been a frequent participant and alumni at the Boisbuchet Summer Workshops in France, a cooperation with the Centre Georges Pompidou and the Vitra Design Museum.

 

The DOTing mirror was designed by Constantinos Economides for the Papenhuder Gallery in Hamburg. The piece was shown in May 2015 at an exhibition curated by Yianna Tsolaki. The mirror is designed in a simple form that tends to be more aesthetically pleasing. The aesthetic quality of a product is integral to its usefulness.

 

Doting – To show excessive fondness or love 

The DOT becomes obviously apparent. 

 

These perfectly formed round circles emphasising a simplistic DOT in a variety of objects; 

The calming effect of familiarity to a form is embraced with the painstakingly procedure pursued both in material and in craftsmanship evolving these same items with the simplistic DOT into a dynamic DOTing experience, by the designer, where excessive fondness or love is shown in making them. 

 

 

 

 

 

O Κωνσταντίνος Οικονομίδης δημιούργησε το 2011 στη Λευκωσία, το δικό του στούντιο, το οποίο επικεντρώνεται στο σχεδιασμό αντικειμένων, επίπλων αλλά και εσωτερικού χώρου. Ο Κωνσταντίνος αποφοίτησε με ΜΑ στο Βιομηχανικό Σχέδιο, στο Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. Απέκτησε εμπειρία σε design αλλά και αρχιτεκτονικά γραφεία, όπως στο Michael Sodeau στούντιο στο Λονδίνο. Τα έργα του έχουν παρουσιαστεί σε εκθέσεις στην Αθήνα, Παλέρμο, Λονδίνο, Μιλάνο, Βαλένθια, Κίνα και Κύπρο, όπου έχουν διακριθεί και σε διεθνής διαγωνισμούς.

 

Το 2008 έως το 2011, ο Κωνσταντίνος επίσης είχε εργαστεί με τους αδελφούς Campana για τον επανασχεδιασμό και ανακαίνιση του Olympic Hotel στην πλατεία Συντάγματος, στην Αθήνα. Λειτουργώντας παράλληλα το δικό του στούτιο, είναι μέλος του DRAW Collective. Ειναι επίσης alumni και έχει συμμετάσχει στα εργαστήρια Boisbuchet Summer Workshops στη Γαλλία, σε συνεργασία με το Centre Georges Pompidou και το Vitra Design Museum.

  

Ο DOTing Mirror σχεδιάστηκε από τον Κωνσταντίνο Οικονομίδη για την Papenhuder Γκαλερί στο Αμβούργο. Το κομμάτι παρουσιάστηκε τον Μάιο του 2015 σε μια έκθεση, σε επιμέλεια της Γιάννα Τσολάκη. Ο καθρέφτης είναι σχεδιασμένος σε μια απλή μορφή που τείνει να είναι πιο αισθητικά ευχάριστος. Η αισθητική ποιότητα του προϊόντος είναι αναπόσπαστο κομμάτι για τη χρηστικότητα του αντικειμένου.
