Την Τρίτη 18 Ιουλίου στις 8μμ, το βιβλιοπωλείο Hyper Hypo και το ξενοδοχείο Mona προσκαλούν την ομάδα designer και αρχιτεκτόνων Objects of Common Interest να παρουσιάσουν στην Αθήνα το νέο τους βιβλίο για τον θρυλικό Ιάπωνα σχεδιαστή και γλύπτη Isamu Noguchi και τη σχέση του με την Ελλάδα.
Θα ακολουθήσει συζήτηση που θα συντονίσει ο Editor at Large για την Ευρώπη του περιοδικού Monocle, Ed Stocker.
Η εκδήλωση θα γίνει στην ταράτσα του ξενοδοχείου (Κακουργοδικείου 4, 10554 Μοναστηράκι) και απαιτείται κράτηση θέσης στο [email protected].
Η συλλογική έκδοση Noguchi and Greece, Greece, and Noguchi, εξετάζει τη σχέση ανάμεσα σε έναν από τους πιο διάσημους καλλιτέχνες του 20ου αιώνα, τον Isamu Noguchi, και τη μεσογειακή χώρα που επισκεπτόταν τακτικά για δεκαετίες, μέσα από την οπτική του Objects of Common Interest (OoCI).
Με συνεκδότες τους Atelier Éditions και DAP, και αποτελούμενο από ένα εξαιρετικά σχεδιασμένο σετ κουτιών δύο τόμων. Ένα κουτί ειδικής έκδοσης που περιέχει δύο εκτυπώσεις είναι επίσης διαθέσιμο μέσω του Atelier Éditions.
Καλύπτοντας τη γλυπτική, το design και την αρχιτεκτονική, το Noguchi and Greece εξετάζει την επιρροή του ελληνικού πολιτισμού σε αυτό το διεπιστημονικό έργο και τη μεταμορφωτική ταυτότητα που δημιούργησε από την ενασχόλησή του με πολλούς πολιτισμούς, διαφορετικούς επαγγελματίες και μια ποικιλία μέσων. Μέσα από εικαστικά δοκίμια, γράμματα, φωτογραφίες, σκίτσα και λόγια του ίδιου του καλλιτέχνη—που μερικοί δεν έχουν ξαναδεί μέχρι τώρα— φανερώνεται η στενή σχέση του Ιαπωνο-αμερικανού καλλιτέχνη με την ιστορία, τη μυθολογία και τον υλικό πολιτισμό της χώρας. Νέα κείμενα εμβαθύνουν στις γόνιμες συνεργασίες του Noguchi με τη δημιουργική του κοινότητα, συμπεριλαμβανομένου του φουτουριστή αρχιτέκτονα Buckminster Fuller και της χορογράφου Martha Graham, και επανερμηνεύουν τη διαρκή κληρονομιά του Noguchi στις σημερινές πρακτικές σχεδιασμού και τέχνης.
Περιέχονται κείμενα από την Diane Apostolos-Cappadona, Hsiao-Yun Chu, Dakin Hart, Noguchi, Fuller, Γιάνννη Βαρελά, Dr.Νικόλαο Παΐσιο και Κατερίνα Κοσκινά. Οπτικές απαντήσεις στο έργο του OoCI, σε συνομιλία με τη διαρκώς εξελισσόμενη πρακτική του Noguchi, προέρχονται από τους φωτογράφους Marco Arguello, Iwan Baan, Γιάννη Μπουρνιά, Lauren Coleman, Brian W Ferry, Adrianna Glaviano, Brooke Holmes, Naho Kubota, Mathjis Labadie, Jana Romanova, Omar Sator, Matthieu Salvaing και Στέφανο Τσακίρη.
Το Noguchi and Greece, Greece and Noguchi είναι μια επέκταση ενός ερευνητικού και εκθεσιακού έργου που ξεκίνησε από το OoCI μαζί με το Μουσείο Noguchi στη Νέα Υόρκη.
Objects of Common Interest
Το Objects of Common Interest αποτελείτε από την Ελένη Πεταλωτή και τον Λεωνίδα Τραμπούκη με επίκεντρο στη δημιουργία αντικειμένων και εγκαταστάσεων, επιδεικνύοντας μια προσήλωση στην υλικότητα, το concept και τις απτές χωρικές εμπειρίες. Το OoCI στοχεύει στη δημιουργία έργων που ισορροπούν μεταξύ των μακροχρόνιων και των εφήμερων έργων στο χρόνο και των αντικειμένων των οποίων η δημιουργική προσέγγιση πηγάζει από μια αφηρημένη σφαίρα εμπλουτισμένη με στρώματα εννοιολογικών αναγνώσεων: στιγμές άγνωστης απλότητας, γλυπτική και υλική αυτο-έκφραση και δομική άρθρωση.
Η Ελένη και ο Λεωνίδας έλαβαν την ακαδημαϊκή τους εκπαίδευση στο Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο στην Ελλάδα και στην Ecole Supérieure d’Architecture de La Villette στο Παρίσι και είναι κάτοχοι μεταπτυχιακού τίτλου στην αρχιτεκτονική από το Πανεπιστήμιο Columbia στη Νέα Υόρκη, ενώ είναι ιδρυτικοί συνεργάτες του στούντιο LOT office for architecture.
Τα έργα τους έχουν εκτεθεί σε ιδρύματα τέχνης και design, γκαλερί και εκθέσεις – συμπεριλαμβανομένων ατομικών εκθέσεων στο Μουσείο Noguchi, Etage Projects, Carwan Gallery και Salone del Mobile στο Μιλάνο. On Tuesday, July 18th, at 8pm, the bookstore Hyper Hypo and the hotel Mona Athens, welcome design and architecture duo Objects of Common Interest in presenting their new book “Noguchi and Greece, Greece and Noguchi” which shines a light on the legendary designer and sculptor’s lifelong relationship with the country.
A discussion will follow, moderated by Monocle magazine’s Europe editor-at-large Ed Stocker.

A collaborative publication examining the relationship between one of the 20th century’s most celebrated artists, Isamu Noguchi, and the Mediterranean country he regularly visited for decades through the lens of Objects of Common Interest (OoCI).
Co-published by Atelier Éditions and D.A.P., and comprised of an exquisitely designed two-volume box set. A special edition box set containing two prints is also available via Atelier Éditions.
Covering sculpture, design, and architecture, Noguchi and Greece considers the influence of Greek culture on this interdisciplinarians work, and the metamorphosing identity he established from engaging with multiple cultures, diverse practitioners, and a variety of mediums. Through visual essays, letters, photographs, sketches, and words from the artist himself —some never seen before now– new light is shed on the Japanese-American artist’s intimate relationship with the country’s history, mythology, and material culture. New texts delve into Noguchi’s fruitful collaborations with his creative community, including futurist architect Buckminster Fuller and choreographer Martha Graham, and reinterpets Noguchi’s enduring legacy across today’s design and art practices.

Noguchi and Greece, Greece and Noguchi is an extension of a research and exhibition project initiated by OoCI with the Noguchi Museum in New York.
About Objects of Common Interest
Objects of Common Interest is formed by Eleni Petaloti and Leonidas Trampoukis with the focus in creating still life installations and experiential environments and objects, demonstrating a fixation with materiality, concept and tangible spatial experiences. OoCI aim to create projects that balance between the long lasting and the ephemeral projects in time and objects whose creative approach stems from an abstract realm enriched with layers of conceptual readings: moments of unfamiliar simplicity, sculptural and material self-expression, and structural articulation.
Eleni and Leonidas received their academic education at Aristotle University in Greece and Ecole Supérieure d’Architecture de La Villette in Paris and hold a masters degree in architecture from Columbia University in New York and are founding partners of sibling studio LOT office for architecture.
Their work has been exhibited at art and design institutions, galleries, and fairs–including solo shows at the Noguchi Museum, Etage Projects, Carwan Gallery, and the Salone del Mobile in Milan. Their work has been widely featured in the press including The Wall Street Journal, TMagazine, Wallpaper*, Elle Decor, Surface Magazine, Architectural Digest, FRAME and others.
