Το έργο Morkentaou Apartment αφορά την αναδιαμόρφωση ενός διαμερίσματος σε πολυκατοικία του 70′ στην Θεσσαλονίκη. Η ομάδα των Normless architecture studio αναδιέταξε τις εσωτερικές χρήσεις και σχεδίασε την λειτουργική και οπτική επικοινωνία των χώρων του διαμερίσματος. Η επιλογή φυσικών υλικών, ξύλου και κονιαμάτων, καθόρισε την ατμόσφαιρα του σπιτιού.

Το έργο αφορά στην αναδιαμόρφωση και ανακαίνιση ενός διαμερίσματος της οδού Μορκεντάου, στο ιστορικό κέντρο της Θεσσαλονίκης.
Διατηρώντας τις περισσότερες εσωτερικές τοιχοποιίες μεταφέρθηκε λειτουργικά η κουζίνα και ενωποιήθηκε με το καθιστικό σε μία open plan διάταξη.
Η τυπική εσωτερική διάταξη του διαμερίσματος της πολυκατοικίας του 70’ περιελάμβανε ξεχωριστά δωμάτια τόσο για τους κοινόχρηστους όσο και για τους ιδιωτικούς χώρους. Διατηρώντας τις περισσότερες εσωτερικές τοιχοποιίες μεταφέρθηκε λειτουργικά η κουζίνα και ενωποιήθηκε με το καθιστικό σε μία open plan διάταξη, ενώ στη θέση της σχεδιάστηκε ένα δωμάτιο με κυρίως χρήση γραφείου ή ξενώνα, το οποίο όμως επικοινωνεί με την είσοδο του διαμερίσματος μέσω ενός εσωτερικού ξύλινου κουφώματος. Οι υπόλοιποι χώροι παρέμειναν στην αρχική τους διάταξη με εξαίρεση το δεύτερο λουτρό το οποίο ενσωματώθηκε στο master bedroom μαζί με ένα χώρο βεστιαρίου.
Η σχεδιαστική φιλοσοφία βασίστηκε στην χρήση φυσικών υλικών όπως ξύλο δρυς σε όλες τις custom made κατασκευές και φυσικά κονιάματα. Η εφαρμογή του κονιάματος επάλειψης σε φυσικούς γήινους τόνους στα περισσότερα δάπεδα, στις τοιχοποιίες, στις πόρτες αλλά και στις οροφές προσδίδει έναν ιδιαίτερο χαρακτήρα, ομογενοποιεί τους χώρους και τονίζει τις ξύλινες κατασκευές του διαμερισματος.
Λειτουργώντας ως διαφυγή από την ίδια την πόλη, το διαμέρισμα προσφέρει μια αίσθηση ηρεμίας μακριά από το βουητό των δρόμων.

Morkentaou Apartment concerns the remodeling of an apartment in a 70’s apartment building in Thessaloniki. Normless architecture studio team rearranged the interior uses and designed the functional and visual communication of the apartment spaces. The choice of natural materials, wood and mortar, defined the atmosphere of the house.

The project concerns the remodeling and renovation of an apartment on Morkentau Street, in the historic center of Thessaloniki.
Maintaining most of the interior masonry, the kitchen was functionally transferred and integrated with the living room in an open plan layout.
The typical interior layout of the apartment in the 70’s included separate rooms for both common and private spaces. Maintaining most of the interior masonry, the kitchen was functionally transferred and integrated with the living room in an open plan layout, while in its place a room was designed mainly for office or guest room, which communicates with the entrance of the apartment through an internal wooden window. The rest of the rooms remained in their original layout with the exception of the second bathroom which was integrated in the master bedroom along with a dressing room.
The design philosophy was based on the use of natural materials such as oak wood in all custom made constructions and natural mortars. The application of the mortar in natural earth tones on most floors, masonry, doors and ceilings gives a special character, homogenizes the spaces and emphasizes the wooden constructions of the apartment.
Acting as an escape from the city itself, the apartment offers a sense of calm away from the hustle and bustle of the streets.
