Two distinct spatial units coexist within a cohesive architectural proposal. DARCH STUDIO designs a health center in Lefkosia, Cyprus that combines and integrates the functions of a pharmacy and a clinic into a coherent design logic. The unified sculptural façade expresses the character of the project.

Architectural Approach

The Health Center, which combines a Pharmacy and a Clinic, posed a unique design challenge.

Each function has distinct spatial and operational needs—the Pharmacy, as a commercial space, is open and active, while the Clinic, designed for medical use, is private and controlled.

The main architectural goal was to merge these two contrasting characters into a single, coherent building.

The unified façade becomes the element that balances openness and privacy, giving the complex a clear and elegant public identity.

The Pharmacy

The Pharmacy represents a contemporary interpretation of how healthcare and commerce can coexist.

Its design embraces transparency and openness, allowing the interior to interact directly with the public space.

The façade acts as a clean “wrapper,” framing the interior as a visible and engaging part of the urban landscape.

The interior unfolds across two levels: the ground floor houses the main service counter and product storage, while the mezzanine accommodates the laboratory, office, and sanitary areas. Product displays line both sides of the space, enhancing the visual connection between floors. A vertical suspension system defines the structure, functioning as the spatial and tectonic backbone.

Material simplicity defines the atmosphere inside. White tones dominate the floors and ceilings, complemented by natural wood textures on vertical surfaces.

Linear lighting elements integrated into the ceiling extend the rhythm of the wooden spine, creating a calm and balanced environment that emphasizes the purity of form and material.

The Clinic

The adjacent Clinic acts as the more introverted counterpart to the Pharmacy.

It serves as a center for healthcare professionals, focusing on diagnosis, treatment, and patient care. Its design reflects this function through clarity, privacy, and precision.

A semi-transparent aluminum skin wraps the façade, forming a sculptural entrance that filters light while maintaining discretion.

This metallic layer continues into the interior, enveloping the examination rooms and defining the threshold between private and communal spaces.

Inside, the Clinic is characterized by clean lines and a controlled material palette. Metal and wood claddings define the walls, while white hygienic flooring reinforces the sense of cleanliness. Integrated linear lighting runs across both vertical and horizontal planes, acting as spatial “arteries” that highlight circulation paths and enhance the tranquil, focused atmosphere of the space.

Together, the Pharmacy and Clinic form a single architectural organism—one that balances public engagement with privacy, openness with retreat.

Through material clarity, spatial rhythm, and a unified façade, the Health Center becomes a subtle yet strong statement on how architecture can mediate between care, commerce, and community.
