The elements that should define the future of Greek tourism

-by Konstantina Tsoutsikou, Founder, Studio Lost – London, Tourism Awards – member of jury

Greek tourism is at a critical point to benefit from global recovery and well positioned to push a luxury product. We need memorable statements with a strong sense of place. I also think that we should be investing in a uniquely Greek vernacular that relates to our times, looks forward and which connects us to our rich heritage.

Then there is an increasingly demanding, socially conscious consumer that demands sustainability. So combining all of the above is a question of cultural curiosity, sensitive research and creative application.

In a landscape where many lookalike developments pop up, while evaluating submissions at Tourism Awards, I will be keeping an eye out for sophisticated, considered design and architecture that feels appropriate for the location and its purpose. We should be celebrating local materials and exploring different ways of expression.  It is not just about the visual experience though. Buildings have to speak to our souls too. I am looking forward to discovering what new developments will be shortlisted!
