LUCA NICHETTO AND DE LA ESPADA AT STOCKHOLM DESIGN WEEK 2014 PREVIEW OF THE COLLECTION 50/50

Born from the collaboration between the Portuguese De La Espada and the Italian Swedish Luca Nichetto Design Studio is the “50/50” collection. The project takes its name both from the concept of balancing skilfully hand- crafted wood with complementary materials at a ratio of 50/50, and from the idea of designing a collection that creates a whole environment in the spirit of the great architects of the 1950`s.
Stockholm Design Week hosts the first of three events that will take place during the year 2014, in three different cities around the world, and stages the debut of the brand “LucaNichetto” with the launch of the first product of the collection, the lounge chair “Elysia”. What characterises this product is its solid wood, double-fork structure that holds the padded shells and cushions of the seat and the backrest. The “skeleton”, traditionally hidden inside the upholstery, is deliberately exposed to showcase the craftsmanship and superior wood, trademark of De La Espada, as well as the fine upholstery work. This attention to detail is also reflected in the choice of location for this event: Bauer Atelièr in Brunnsgatan 4 in Stockholm, since 1863 combines the ancient tradition of tailoring with the perpetual search for new fabrics and the development of innovative processes.

“Luca represents to me a new future for Italian design. Willing to collaborate rather than dictate, respectful of others` efforts, knowledgeable about the real history and traditions of Italian design, yet open to the world and hungry for the future. De La Espada would not be complete if we could not tap into this new phase of Italian design, and we are very lucky to have met Luca.”
(Luis De Oliveira, CEO De La Espada)

“From my first conversation with Luis I have been intrigued by the innovative approach to the project that the company De La Espada has developed. I was immediately inspired by their vision and the remarkable quality of their products and it felt natural to me to be part of it and share with them my enthusiasm an my knowledge.”
(Luca Nichetto, Founder of Luca Nichetto Design Studio)
