The Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany is the most prestigious official award within the field of design in Germany and it is endowed by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. At the award show last night, on September 12, 2013, at the auditorium of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology under the patronage of State Secretary Mrs. Anne Ruth Herkes, this year´s 11 award-winners in three categories and the awardee for Lifetime Achievements were announced. The award show was presented by Felix Heimberg. Commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, DMY Berlin GmbH & Co. KG was responsible for the organization and production of the award show.
 
This year´s outstanding achievements were divided into the following categories:Product design (serial products of all industries), communication design (analogue and digital media, as well as 3D- and live communication) and young talents. The Young Talents award is endowed with €8.000 prize money. All submissions for the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany 2013 were exhibited during the DMY International Design Festival in June of this year in the hangars of the former airport Berlin Tempelhof. Moreover, the submissions and nominees were made public under: www.bundesdesignpreis.de.
