KOSTAS POULOPOULOS / COPENHAGEN, A CITY FOR CHILDREN / DESIGN LAB SHOW 2015 ATHENS

Kostas Poulopoulos, senior architect at BIG in this presentation, refers to how Copenhagen is dealing with its overall design according to children`s needs.

Children are the most vulnerable users of the city. At the same time, they are the most important users, because they represent the future of a city. We, the people,  fundamentally design in order to protect ourselves from unpleasant situations and foremost to fulfill our objectives, which are desired situations.

Children, the bodies of the future, are the members of a society who will be invited to carry out these desirable situations and help to complete the vision of this society. But until it is their turn, how can we design the space in order to provide them with security and a sense of belonging, from which social responsibility stems?

Copenhagen is a city that has been contemplating and designing for several decades on this axis: A city planned for the future, a city designed for children.

“Copenhagen, a city for children“ was presented during Design Lab Show 2015 in Athens, organised by Archisearch.gr.
