The 12. DMY International Design Festival kicked off successfully on May 28, 2014. The award ceremony for the DMY Awards took place on the night of the second day of the festival, on May 29, 2014. The DMY Awards prices innovation and excellency within the three exhibitor categories Exhibitor, New Talent and Education. The best works were honored with the DMY awards by the high-class jury in front of an enthusiastic audience. In the category Exhibitor, the Czech company of long-established tradition, TON, was awarded by the jury. The jury praised TON for its successful endeavour to bring the company into the present times through a contemporary design approach working with young designers. An additional special prize in the category Exhibitor was given to Flowers for Slovakia for their beautiful collection, inspired by ready-mades, using industrial elements and combining the two and rooting the objects in the local heritage. In the category Education, the Lund University School of Industrial Design was honoured with a DMY-Award. The jury justified its decision by emphasizing the successful coherent presentation of a school and its diversity in teaching industrial design, from craft-like projects to reseach-based innovation. The prize in the category New Talent went to Fischer Weidenmüller Unterberg for Clair Obscur. “After a long discussion, we decided to award the New Talent Award to an innovative, stunning and surprising projection method – Clair Obscur – which immediately triggered our fantasy for possible applications and fun scenarios”, the jury said.

The DMY Award trophies were produced by Berlin Glas e.V. and designed by Philipp Weber, who himself was awarded a DMY Award in the category New Talent in 2013. The members of the DMY-Awards jury 2014 were: Jürgen Löffler (Designer, Audi), Prof. Hermann August Weizenegger (Professor for Industrial Design at the FH Potsdam and product and industrial designer), Tulga Beyerle (Design expert, Director Museum of Arts and Crafts Dresden), Prof. Claus-Christian Eckhardt (Professor and Director Lund University School of Industrial Design), and Joerg Suermann (CEO DMY Berlin).
