“Inotropes Boutique Hotel” occurred from the renovation of a two-story traditional building located within the settlement of Archanes in Heraklion, Crete. The restore and transform of the building into a boutique hotel was made by Agapi’s Kazamia architectural office. Design’s goal was to respect the history and the architectural heritage of the place while, the interior was equipped with custom-made furniture and lighting which “have a modern approach, defined a new and special identity in the composition.” as the architect states.

The project concerns the renovation of a two-story traditional building located within the settlement of Archanes in Heraklion, Crete. Our goal was to restore and transform the building into a Boutique Hotel. The name of the hotel “Oinotropes” was chosen symbolically by the owner.

The “Oinotropes” according to Ancient Greek Mythology were the daughters of Anios, king of Delos, and Dorippi and granddaughters of the god Dionysus, who had given them the magical ability to turn water into wine and anything else they wanted into wheat and olives .

Thus, the rooms on the first floor are named “Ino” the woman who brings the wine, “Spermo” the woman who brings the seeds and “Elais” the woman who brings the oil. On the ground floor are the common areas, namely the reception – cellar, with a sitting area and fireplace, and the dining room, and the other three rooms of the hotel, which were given the names mentioned above, “Dorippi” the wife of “Anios”, and the name of the son of Dionysos, “Staphilos” as well as “Anios”, a room which was designed outside the building complex, free in the inner courtyard.

Regarding the restoration, the aim was to respect the traditional architecture of the area, thus, the structure of the building, the openings of the windows and doors as well as the configuration of the interior spaces in terms of the rooms on the floor were preserved.

In the interior design, the approach is thematic and different in each room, yes with respect to the traditional style of the area and the pre-existing building, but with a modern performance. Thus, the architectural elements, such as arches, wooden beams, wooden floors, wooden lofts in double-height spaces, fireplaces, etc., materials such as cement mortar, stone, metal (with oxidation technique), wood, pumice stone and raw marble as well as the special custom constructions of the furniture and lighting which have a modern approach, defined a new and special identity in the composition.

The outdoor area of ​​the building, i.e. the inner courtyard and the terrace of the floor, host sitting rooms, a fireplace, the pre-existing well, which was restored and highlighted, the traditional fountain, Mediterranean planting (olive, citrus, cypress, arbor, climbing rose trees and herbs) which in combination with atmospheric lighting create outdoor relaxation areas with privacy from the outside environment for the members of the complex.

Το “Inotropes Boutique Hotel” προέκυψε από την ανακαίνιση ενός διώροφου παραδοσιακού κτιρίου που βρίσκεται εντός του οικισμού των Αρχανών στο Ηράκλειο Κρήτης. Η αποκατάσταση και μετατροπή του κτιρίου σε boutique ξενοδοχείο έγινε από το αρχιτεκτονικό γραφείο Αγάπης Καζαμία. Στόχος του design ήταν ο σεβασμός της ιστορίας και της αρχιτεκτονικής κληρονομιάς του τόπου ενώ, το εσωτερικό είναι εξοπλισμένο με custom-made έπιπλα και φωτιστικά που «έχουν μια σύγχρονη προσέγγιση, καθόρισαν μια νέα και ιδιαίτερη ταυτότητα στη σύνθεση», όπως δηλώνει η αρχιτέκτονας.

Το παρόν έργο αφορά την ανακαίνιση ενός διώροφου παραδοσιακού κτηρίου που βρίσκεται εντός του οικισμού των Αρχανών στο Ηράκλειο της Κρήτης. Στόχος μας ήταν η αποκατάσταση και η μετατροπή του κτηρίου σε Boutique Hotel. Το όνομα του ξενοδοχείου “Οινότροπες” επιλέχθηκε συμβολικά από την ιδιοκτήτρια. Οι “Οινότροπες” σύμφωνα με την Αρχαία Ελληνική Μυθολογία ήταν οι κόρες του Άνιου, βασιλιά της Δήλου, και της  Δωρίππης και εγγονές του θεού Διόνυσου, που τους είχαν δώσει τη μαγική ικανότητα να μετατρέπουν εσαεί  το νερό σε κρασί και οτιδήποτε άλλο ήθελαν σε σιτάρι και ελιές.

Έτσι, τα δωμάτια του πρώτου ορόφου έχουν τα ονόματα “Οινώ” η γυναίκα που φέρνει το κρασί, “Σπερμώ” η γυναίκα που φέρνει τους σπόρους και “Ελάις” η γυναίκα που φέρνει το λάδι . Στο ισόγειο βρίσκονται οι κοινόχρηστοι χώροι, δηλαδή η ρεσεψιόν – κελάρι, με χώρο καθιστικού και τζάκι,  και η τραπεζαρία, και τα άλλα τρία άλλα δωμάτια του ξενοδοχείου, στα οποία δόθηκαν τα ονόματα που αναφέρονται παραπάνω, “Δωρίππη” η σύζυγος του “Άνιου”, και το όνομα του γιου του Διόνυσου, «Στάφυλος» καθώς και “Άνιος”, δωμάτιο το όποιο σχεδιάστηκε εκτός του κτηριακού συγκροτήματος, ελεύθερο στην εσωτερική αυλή.

Όσον αφορά την αποκατάσταση στόχος ήταν ο σεβασμός στην παραδοσιακή αρχιτεκτονική της περιοχής, έτσι, διατηρήθηκε η δομή του κτιρίου, τα ανοίγματα των παραθύρων και των θυρών καθώς και η διαμόρφωση των εσωτερικών χώρων σε ό,τι αφορά τα δωμάτια του ορόφου.

Στον εσωτερικό σχεδιασμό η προσέγγιση είναι θεματική και διαφορετική σε κάθε δωμάτιο, ναι μεν με σεβασμό στο παραδοσιακό ύφος της περιοχής και του προϋπάρχοντος κτίσματος, αλλά με σύγχρονη απόδοση. Έτσι, τα αρχιτεκτονικά στοιχεία, όπως,οι καμάρες, τα ξύλινα δοκάρια, τα ξύλινα δάπεδα, τα ξύλινα πατάρια σε χώρους διπλού ύψους, τα τζάκια κλπ, τα φυσικά υλικά όπως τσιμεντοκονία, πέτρα, μέταλλο (με τεχνικές φυσικής οξείδωσης), ξύλο, πωρόλιθος και ακατέργαστο μάρμαρο καθώς και οι ιδιαίτερες custom κατασκευές των επίπλων και των φωτιστικών οι οποίες έχουν σύγχρονη προσέγγιση, όρισαν μια νέα και ιδιαίτερη ταυτότητα στη σύνθεση.

Ο υπαίθριος χώρος του κτιρίου, δηλαδή η εσωτερική αυλή και η βεράντα του ορόφου, φιλοξενούν καθιστικά, τζάκι, το προυπάρχον πηγάδι, το οποίο αποκαταστάθηκε και αναδείχτηκε, τη παραδοσιακή βρύση, μεσογειακή φύτευση (ελιά, εσπεριδοειδή, κυπαρίσσια, κληματαριά, αναρριχόμενες τριανταφυλλιές, γιασεμιά και βότανα) που σε συνδυασμό με τον ατμοσφαιρικό φωτισμό δημιουργούν χώρους υπαίθριας χαλάρωσης με ιδιωτικότητα από το εξωτερικό περιβάλλον για τους ενοίκους τους συγκροτήματος.
