14 meters underneath the crystal clear Lanzarote waters, across the sandy seabed, artist Jason Decaires Taylor installed a group of 35 human figures walking towards a crucial point where return is not an option. Europe faces its greatest challenge in human rights as the ongoing refugee crisis has been managed in a rather cruel and dissapointing manner.
As the artist stated “the work is not intended as a tribute or memorial to the many lives lost, but as a stark reminder of the collective responsibility of our now global community“.
The underwater gallery also includes a botanical garden and an artificial reef for the local fish species as a remider of the close connection between the area and its fauna and flora. The installation will open for divers on February 25, 2016.
