Interiors We Love celebrates spaces where architecture, craft, and emotion converge. The series spotlights interiors defined by material intelligence and enduring beauty; spaces that move beyond trends, shaping everyday rituals and reflecting the evolving language of contemporary architecture worldwide.
In Rome’s EUR district—known for its blend of classical Roman references and modernist forms—Maria Adele Savioli reimagines a 160-square-metre apartment as Casa Viale della Tecnica. Preserving the original Venetian flooring and exposed concrete structure, the project introduces fluid spatial sequences, glazed partitions, and bespoke furnishings that shape a quietly elegant contemporary interior. At the centre of the design, a multifunctional architectural volume subtly organises the plan, mediating between the living and private areas while reinforcing the apartment’s sense of openness and continuity.
Casa Viale della Tecnica is the renovation of a 160-square-metre apartment by the studio of Maria Adele Savioli located in the heart of the E.U.R. district in the south of Rome. Originally designed in the late 1930s under Benito Mussolini for Esposizione Universale di Roma 1942, EUR is known for its monumental rationalist architecture, combining classical Roman references with modernist forms. Buildings are arranged along wide boulevards and large plazas, giving the area a formal, almost theatrical urban layout.
The project transforms the residence into a contemporary living environment that enhances existing materials and architectural features through a pared-back yet richly detailed design language.
The intervention takes its cue from the apartment’s original structure.
Venetian flooring and exposed reinforced concrete walls become the compositional and graphic matrices around which a new spatial layout is organised. Spaces are reconfigured to emphasise continuity between interior and exterior, introducing new openings and a fluid arrangement in which the living area extends seamlessly toward the terrace that wraps around the home.
At the centre of the apartment, the living space unfolds as a unified and dynamic environment.
Exposed ceiling beams frame visual perspectives across the floor, while a system of glazed partitions separates the kitchen from the entrance without interrupting the visual permeability between volumes. Natural materials and refined finishes interact in balance: the kitchen, crafted in steel and brushed aluminium, is paired with the warmth of okoumé wood, used to form a large furnishing volume that divides the living area from the sleeping quarters.
A defining element of the project is a multifunctional architectural volume that articulates and connects the various areas of the home.
Both subtle and central, it integrates wardrobes, a bookcase, and a study, while discreetly concealing access to the private spaces. Passing through this volume reveals a corridor wrapped in a delicate powder-blue tone, guiding movement toward the more intimate areas of the apartment with quiet discretion.
All built-in furnishings and doors are custom-designed and handcrafted.
This reflects the studio’s design approach, which combines architectural precision with sensitivity to material expression. The living room also features Salto Basso, a table from the Salto collection by MAS Design, the brand co-founded by Maria Adele Savioli.
Composed of sand, cement, and water with brushed aluminium detailing, the piece reinterprets traditional craftsmanship through a contemporary sculptural language.
Its soft tone and textured surface establish a tactile and chromatic dialogue with the surrounding materials, while its sculptural form anchors the open-plan living space with understated presence. Casa Viale della Tecnica unfolds through a carefully balanced interplay of structural elements and bespoke details.
Each component contributes to the creation of an interior defined by precision, material depth, and quiet elegance, closely attuned to its architectural context.
