Η έκφραση A BOOK AFFAIR περιγράφει μια κατάσταση στην οποία κάποιος διαβάζει ένα σύνθετο, απαιτητικό βιβλίο, ενώ συγχρόνως καταπιάνεται με ένα ευχάριστο, εύκολο βιβλίο.
Σε αυτό το πνεύμα το Radio Athènes δημιουργεί μια προσωρινή βιβλιοθήκη/σκηνή ανοικτή στο κοινό για αρκετούς μήνες (Μάιος – Νοέμβριος 2018). Κατά τη διάρκεια της περιόδου αυτής, το Radio Athènes προσκαλεί Έλληνες και ξένους εκδότες, συγγραφείς και καλλιτέχνες να παρουσιάσουν τη δουλειά τους σ ε αναγνώσεις, ομιλίες, περφόρμανς, συζητήσεις και μινι – εκθέσεις. Η επιλογή των τίτλων θα περιλαμβάνει θέματα τέχνης, θεωρίας, μόδας, λογοτεχνίας, ψυχανάλυσης, αρχιτεκτονικής και ντηζάιν, ένα μίγμα “ευχάριστης” αλλά και πιο “περίπλοκης” ανάγνωσης, ξετυλίγον τας θεματολογίες στον τρισδιάστατο χώρο. Το κοινό και οι συμμετέχοντες θα ανταλλάξουν ιδέες και πληροφορίες και θα έχουν πρόσβαση σε μία από τις παλαιότερες μορφές ευχαρίστησης: το βιβλίο. Το A BOOK AFFAIR θα πραγματοποιηθεί στην βιβλιοθήκη και auditorium του Goethe – Institut , στο μικρό αμφιθέατρο του Μουσείου Μπενάκη, στο Radio Athènes , που διαμορφώνεται ειδικά για το πρότζεκτ από τον αρχιτέκτονα Etienne Descloux , καθώς και σε απρόσμενους χώρους της πόλης. Το A BOOK AFFAIR είναι μια συνεργασία του Goethe – Institut Athen και του Radio Athènes .
Codex DESTE
Στο πλαίσιο αυτού του προτζεκτ, το Ίδρυμα ∆ΕΣΤΕ παρουσιάζει την Codex DESTE (Κώδικας ∆ΕΣΤΕ), μια ειδική εγκατάσταση με το σύνολο των εκδόσεων που συνόδεψαν την εκθεσιακή δραστηριότητα του Ιδρύματος από το 1983 μέχρι σήμερα, καθώς και τη σειρά μονογραφιών για καλλιτέχνες “2000 Words ”. Η εγκατάσταση αυτή βασίζεται στην παραδοχή ότι ένας κατάλογος τέχνης είναι κάτι παραπάνω από την απλ ή παρουσίαση εικόνων στο χαρτί: είναι μια ανακωδικοποίηση της εμπειρίας , από το γεγονός μιας έκθεσης ή ενός έργου τέχνης , σε μορφή βιβλίου.
Υπ’ αυτήν την έννοια η Codex DESTE διερευνά την απτή, υλική πλευρά των εκδόσε ων σε ένα ειδικά διαμορφωμένο περιβάλλον. Πρόκειται για μια φυσική και ριζωματική περιήγηση στον συστατικό ρόλο που έχουν οι κατάλογοι στην εκθεσιακή ιστορία του Ιδρύματος ∆ΕΣΤΕ. Η εγκατάσταση σ υμπληρώνεται με το αλληγορικό GOD (2013) των Drocco/ Mello + TOILETPAPER και δύο προβολ ές βίντεο του Doug Aitken και του Seth Price.
Η εγκατάσταση Codex DESTE θα παρουασιαστεί στο Radio Athènes μεταξύ 15 και 30 Ιουνίου . Τα εγκαίνεια θα πραγματοποιηθούν στις 14 Ιουνίου και ώρα 19:30

A BOOK AFFAIR is a term used to describe a situation in which one is reading a short, casual, fun book, while attempting to read a much longer, more complex book.
In this spirit, Radio Athènes, in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Athen, is creating a temporary library/stage, which will be open to the public for the run of several months (May–November 2018). Within this period, Radio Athènes is inviting Greek and international publishers, authors, editors, and artists to present their work in lectures, talks, performances, and book signings. The selection spans art, theory, fashion, literature, psychoanalysis, architecture and design, a mix of ‘fun books’ and more ‘complex reading’. This project is used as an opportunity for events that include artists presenting monographs as well as mini-exhibitions in the second Radio Athènes space so that the ‘Book Affair’ is transformed into a real ‘salon’ situation. Local audiences and invited guests can exchange ideas, information and have access to one of the oldest forms of pleasure: books. The presentations/events will take place in the library and auditorium of the Goethe-Institut, the auditorium of the Benaki Museum, at Radio Athènes, which is transformed for the project by Berlin based architect Etienne Descloux, as well as in surprising locations in the city, depending on the format each participant chooses.
Codex DESTE
In the context of this project, the DESTE Foundation presents Codex DESTE, a special installation featuring all the publications that have accompanied the Foundation’s exhibitions from 1983 to this day, as well as the 2000 Words series of artist’s monographs. If an art catalogue, more than simply seeing images on paper, is a transcoding in book format of the event-making experience of an art exhibition or of an artwork, the installation Codex DESTE explores the physical dimension of publications in a specially designed environment. This is a material and rhizomatic inquiry into the constitutive role of art catalogues in the exhibitions’ history of the DESTE Foundation. The installation is complemented by the allegorical GOD (2013) by Drocco/Mello + TOILETPAPER and two video projections by Doug Aitken and Seth Price.
A Book Affair is organized by the Goethe-Institut Athen and Radio Athènes, with the kind collaboration of the Benaki Museum and the support of the British Council and the Institut Français.
