The Architect’s Office explores the studio as both laboratory and mirror of architectural thought. The series examines how space, ritual, tools, and collaboration shape design culture. From intimate ateliers to larger practices, these workplaces reveal values and ambitions—where ideas are tested and identities take form, moving from paper and digital drawing toward the built world.
For Maden Architects, designing an office was not simply an opportunity to create a functional workplace. It was an occasion to materialize the values that have shaped the Prishtina-based practice since its founding in 2009, translating its design philosophy into a shared environment where architecture, collaboration, and creativity intersect. The project embodies the studio’s belief that meaningful architecture emerges through dialogue, shared authorship, and environments designed to foster exchange and collective growth.
Over the past decade, Maden Architects has established a multidisciplinary portfolio spanning residential, hospitality, commercial, workplace, and mixed-use projects. Rather than adhering to a fixed architectural language, the practice approaches every commission as a dialogue between people, place, materiality, and function. The resulting architecture is characterized by careful material compositions, and timeless environments that privilege experience over stylistic expression.
This same philosophy defines the studio’s own workspace. “Designing spaces for our clients has always been what we do best. With every project, we leave a part of ourselves behind, making sure each space feels meaningful and personal. Eventually, it was our turn to design a place of our own,” say the architects.
Conceived as an ecosystem rather than a conventional office, the project transforms a former office building of enclosed rooms and glazed partitions into an open, interconnected environment shared by architects, artists, filmmakers, graphic designers, and creative collaborators.
The workplace reflects the studio’s conviction that meaningful architecture emerges through exchange, interdisciplinary thinking, and collective authorship resulting in an office space filled with creativity, greenery, artwork, and a shared passion for design.
The project is intentionally layered with narratives that reinforce this identity. Visitors are welcomed by a reception space where artist Driton Selmani’s Memory Box installation, assembled from objects collected throughout the practice’s previous offices, connects the studio’s present with its evolving history.
Nearby, a curated display documents significant milestones in the office’s development, while a motorcycle positioned at the main staircase functions as a symbolic reminder that creative journeys have no limits.
The spatial organisation further expresses Maden Architects’ collaborative ethos. The first floor operates as the social and educational heart of the workplace, accommodating the Kantinë, an amphitheatre for presentations, workshops, and ADPT Academy lectures, alongside classrooms, administrative functions, and the offices of creative partners including Studio Driton Selmani, Project Graphics, and Moviola Pro.
Rather than separating disciplines, the layout encourages continuous interaction between architecture, visual arts, communication, and media production.
The second floor houses Maden Architects itself. Designed as an open-plan studio, it brings the architectural teams into a shared workspace while integrating meeting rooms and dedicated offices for the practice’s partners. Transparency, flexibility, and visual continuity promote both focused work and spontaneous collaboration, reflecting the studio’s belief that design evolves through conversation as much as through individual authorship.
Warm materials, abundant greenery, artworks, and carefully curated colours soften the architectural framework, creating an environment that balances professionalism with a sense of belonging.
Every design decision contributes to an atmosphere that is simultaneously welcoming and productive, reinforcing the notion that workplaces should nurture both creativity and community.
More than a headquarters, Maden Architects’ offices function as a three-dimensional manifesto of the practice itself. They demonstrate how an architectural workspace can become an active participant in the design process—supporting collaboration and celebrating shared memory.
