BALLOON BOWLS BY MAARTEN DE CEULAER
Martina Nadal
The Balloon Bowls are created by casting strong synthetic plaster into a balloon, after which a second balloon is inserted, and inflated. These two balloons act as flexible moulds, ensuring a unique shape for each and every bowl. Once the plaster is set, the balloons are removed, and a bowl appears. The colorants, which are added to the water prior to mixing it with the plaster powder, emerge differently each time again, creating uncontrolled and often spectacular color patterns. The bowls are finished with a special coating (matte or glossy) which reinforces the plaster, makes it waterproof and usable for many purposes, it is also dry food approved.

PORCELAIN VASES AT THE LONDON DESIGN FESTIVAL 2014 BY JOMI EVERS SOLHEIM
Martina Nadal
This ongoing project is an experiment in how to use the elements of air and water in a design process. Containing these elements within a balloon, the natural elasticity of latex combined with the laws of gravity makes it possible to create a wide range of individual transitory forms. Through a casting process the shapes are made into solid porcelain objects.

FIBER CHAIR BY ISKOS-BERLIN AND AIRY TABLE BY CECILIE MANZ FOR MUUTO
Martina Nadal
“One of the most difficult and noble disciplines is to design without eccentricity. To create simple, well-functioning, almost ordinary objects that nevertheless have strong identities. We designed FIBER CHAIR to do just that with a clear sculptural language that refuses to compromise on comfort. It’s a chair stripped of all unnecessary layers leaving the chair with a seat, back and armrests that is integrated in one harmonious shell, perfect for nesting yourself into. The iconic form marries soft, embracing curves with an environmentally friendly wood fiber composite, giving FIBER CHAIR a distinctive tactile texture while also keeping it 100% recyclable.”

USABILITY AWARDS / GOOD DESIGN & A HIGH LEVEL OF USABILITY
Martina Nadal
The Usability Award is a competition by International Design Center Berlin that awards products’ outstanding design quality and convincing user orientation and presents them to the public during IFA, the global consumer electronics show. User centered design is of key importance in particular for technical devices and interactive user interfaces because the success of these products lies in the hands of the real people who use them. Devices that can be used in an intuitive and user-friendly manner end up being more successful and will last longer on the global market. A high level of usability is a key feature of successful quality products of tomorrow.

LLATRA LAMPS BY MARIO MARTÍNEZ
Martina Nadal
Llatra is an outcome of an investigation and experimentation throughout crafted and traditional techniques historically valuable. In fact, by choosing palmetto, the aim was to look back in time, using the most traditional weaving technique as a starting point in order to create new objects. Caring more for warmth than shapes, being them a result of an evolution in the process, thinking of imperfections as a value and not as a fault, taking them as an expression of the material finally being an important feature of the objects.
